Sam Singh

Sam Singh is senior consultant to the New Economy Initiative. He is also a senior policy consultant with Public Policy Associates in Lansing. In his role with NEI, Singh will be responsible for working on workforce development strategies and leveraging NEI’s work with state and federal entities.

Singh was president and CEO of the Michigan Nonprofit Association for 10 years and also served as the mayor of the city of East Lansing. He has served on a wide range of nonprofit boards and committees, including City Connect Detroit and the Governor’s Council on Asian and Pacific American Affairs. In 2008-09, Singh took a 16 month, self-funded sabbatical in which he traveled to 46 counties to examine international nonprofit groups. Singh holds a B.A. in history from Michigan State University and is a graduate of the Michigan Political Leadership and National Collegiate Leadership programs. He was named Spartan of the Year by State News, the Michigan State student newspaper.
