Over the past several years, southeast Michigan’s Alternative Energy sector has continued to evolve. Alternative Energy spans a wide number of industries from sophisticated high technology research and development, the evolving electric grid to the greening of buildings. Hear about findings to-date; learn about the industry perspective of work force needs and strategies for improving workforce development issues.

This event is a collaborative effort by: New Economy Initiative, NextEnergy and the MEDC.
The New Economy Initiative was launched in 2008 as a unique philanthropic initiative aimed at helping to restore Southeast Michigan to a position of leadership in the new global economy. The New Economy initiative is committed to increasing prosperity and expanding opportunity for all residents and communities in the region. Ten national and local foundations have committed $100 million to this eight-year initiative to accelerate the transition of metro Detroit to an innovation-based economy. These foundations include: the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, the Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the Hudson-Webber Foundation, the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the Kresge Foundation, the McGregor Fund, the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and the Skillman Foundation.
